I’ve come full circle!

On Friday, April 26th, 2013, I passed the last two standard gold pattern dances sat the Nazareth Ice Oasis in Redwood City. I am officially a Gold Medalist in ice dancing!

I actually started learning ice dance in Redwood City, when I was seven years old. My first coach, John Dowding, was one of the best coaches I could have asked for. He was gentle, he was kind, and he was always very patient with me, going over the exercises and fundamentals until he was sure that I had mastered the skill. I have much to thank him for.

But there is still a lot to appreciate, most of it in the form of my current coach, Sergei Ponomarenko, and his wife and former dance partner, Marina Klimova. Both of them have helped me expand upon my dance fundamentals and allowed them to grow and improve greatly. I especially must thank Sergei for constantly adapting to my irregular schedule, always making time for me on the weekends whenever I come back to northern California to visit my family.

In the past couple of years, I have also had a lot of fun participating in the annual Bay Area Ice Dance Weekend with the BAID (Bay Area Ice Dancers). And I always enjoy skating with my friends during the social ice dance sessions on Sundays at San Jose.
